Talk to Santa

As we are about to get out for Christmas break, I thought today's activity could be a seasonal one. Today you can have a chat with Father Christmas, or Santa if you prefer and find out a bit more about him. The aim of this task is for you to practice your personal information questions. These are important as they help you to find out more about people?

You are going to use the 'This is Santa' website to have a text chat with Santa. You'll have to be very careful about your spelling and punctuation though as Santa can only understand grammatically correct sentences.

Task:
1. Before you interview Santa, perhaps you could think of 5 questions that you would like to ask him. (If you have little brothers or sisters they will LOVE to help you with this activity. )
2. When you are ready, go to: http://www.thisissanta.com/ you'll see a picture of Santa and two text fields. Type your questions into the bottom field and then wait for the answers. They should appear in the top field.

3. Once your interview is complete, use your mouse to highlight the entire conversation. Right click on the conversation while it is highlighted and copy the text.

4. Come back to the blog and leave a comment. For your comment you will right click again and paste your conversation into the comment box.

5. Don't forget to leave your name so I know who to give credit to. This activity will be worth 5 points instead of 2.

You: Why are you so big?
Santa: I'm fat because I eat too much.
You: Why do you eat so much
Santa: I live far away in the North Pole so that I can make presents all year round undisturbed by distractions.
You: Why do you go down someones chimbney to deliver the presents?
Santa: I have been getting pretty heavy over the years but Mrs. Claus is helping me to slow down when I eat. I also eat a lot of cookies and candy when I am at the North Pole and while I am delivering the presents on Christmas Eve but I'm now making sure I go on walks with Mrs. Claus or jog a little bit in the mornings.
You: Why don't you want anyone to see you?
Santa: Part of the magic of Christmas is that you cant see me when I come to deliver your presents.
You: How do you know if someone is sleeping or awake?
Santa: All year long I keep my eye on all the children to make sure they behave. If all else fails I can ask parents if you've been bad or good. So be good for goodness sake!

You: Hey Santa...I have a question for you! Is it hard to get presents to everyone that wants them?
Santa: Hi there! What's on your Christmas list this year? Thanks. Since the invention of GPS it is all I use to get around these days. It's hard to imagine life before the global positioning system.
You: Alot...Yeah i know gps is the bomb..it works very well if you need to get to alot of places just like you do!
Santa: Since the invention of GPS it is all I use to get around these days. It's hard to imagine life before the global positioning system. I keep a lookout all year long to see which children are being well behaved. I update my list frequently and double check it on Christmas Eve so it's important to be good all year long.
You: Yes! I know what you mean...so are you sayin that you dont like the kids that are on the bad list?
Santa: I understand. Since the invention of GPS it is all I use to get around these days. It's hard to imagine life before the global positioning system. Every year I make a list of children throughout the world, categorizing them according to their behavior; I then deliver presents, including toys, candy, and other presents to all of the good boys and girls in the world, and sometimes coal or sticks to the naughty children.
You: Do you like the bad kids too?
Santa: While I always try to give good presents to good little boys and girls, I am also not the only one who gives presents. Many presents are given from parents, relatives, and friends and I cannot control who those gifts go to.
You: Yes! I understand...well it wsa very nice talking to you...cant wait till christmas again!!
Santa: Yes, it's obvious. My wife gives me gifts, this year I'm asking for a new ipod. I fear that I only visit houses when boys and girls are fast asleep.
You: Good bye1
Santa: I am pleased.
