It's Poetic (5 points - 3rd six weeks)

We have been talking about poetry in class. We discussed that most songs are poems. The letters beside each line in the poem below map out the rhyme scheme.

I'm a Little Teapot (author unknown)

I'm a little teapot ------------A
Short and stout--------------B
Here is my handle-----------C
Here is my spout------------B

When I get all steamed up---A
Hear me shout--------------B
"Tip me over--------------- C
and pour me out!" ---------- B

Go to the site www.lyricsondemand.com and search for a song that you like. Use your mouse to highlight two of the stanzas from your poem. Come back to the blog and right click to paste the words you copied into the comment box. Like I did above with "I'm a Little Teapot," add the rhyme scheme to both stanzas.

***NOTE - Don't click on the ringtone or download links within the site. You should never enter your phone number over the internet without your parents' assistance and permission. They are not really free.

We were both young, when I first saw you.
I close my eyes and the flashback starts-
I'm standing there, on a balcony in summer air.

I see the lights; see the party, the ball gowns.
I see you make your way through the crowd-
You say hello, little did I know...

That you were Romeo, you were throwing pebbles-
And my daddy said "stay away from Juliet"-
And I was crying on the staircase-
begging you please don't go...
And I said...

Romeo take me somewhere, we can be alone.
I'll be waiting; all there's left to do is run.
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess,
It's a love story, baby, just say yes.

I hate that stupid old pickup truck A
You never let me drive B
You're a redneck heartbreak C
Who's really bad at lying D
So watch me strike a match E
On all my wasted time F
As far as I'm concerned you're G
Just another picture to burn H

There's no time for tears, A
I'm just sitting here planning my revenge B
There's nothing stopping me C
From going out with all of your best friends B
And if you come around saying sorry to me C
My daddy's gonna show you how sorry you'll be C

We're just a couple of animals B

If I could write a letter to me a
And send it back in time to myself at 17 b
First I'd prove it's me by saying look under your bed
There's a Skoal can and a Playboy no one else would know you hid
And then I'd say I know its tough
When you break up after seven months
And yeah I know you really liked her and it just don't seem fair
All I can say is pain like that is fast and it's rare

[1st Chorus]
And oh you got so much going for you going right
But I know at 17 it's hard to see past Friday night
She wasn't right for you
And still you feel like there's a knife sticking out of your back
And you're wondering if you'll survive
You'll make it through this and you'll see
You're still around to write this letter to me

At the stop sign at Tomlinson and Eighth
Always stop completely don't just tap your brakes
And when you get a date with Bridgett make sure the tank is full
On second thought forget it that one turns out kinda cool
Each and every time you have a fight
Just assume you're wrong and daddy is right
And you should really thank Mrs. Bringman
She spend so much extra time
It's like she sees the diamond underneath
And she's polishing you 'til you shine

[2nd Chorus]
And oh you got so much going for you going right
But I know at 17 it's hard to see past Friday night
Tonight's the bonfire rally
But you're staying home instead because if you fail Algebra
Mom and dad will kill you dead
Trust me you'll squeak by and get a C
And you're still around to write this letter to me

You've got so much up ahead
You'll make new friends
You should see your kids and wife
And I'd end up saying have no fear
These are nowhere near the best years of your life

I guess I'll see you in the mirror
When you're a grown man
P.S. "go hug Aunt Rita every chance you can"

[3rd Chorus]
And oh you got so much going for you going right
But I know at 17 it's hard to see past Friday night
I wish you'd study Spanish
I wish you'd take a typing class
I wish you wouldn't worry, let it be
I'd say have a little faith and you'll see

If I could write a letter to me
To me

Romeo save me, they're trying to tell me how to feel.
This love is difficult, but it's real.
Don't be afraid, we'll make it out of this mess.
It's a love story, baby, just say yes.
Oh, Oh.
