Hey, No Cloning Around (2nd 6 weeks)

This week one of our vocabulary words is "cloning." This is Dolly. She was the first animal ever cloned. How do you feel about cloning? Do you feel that it should be legal? Do you feel that it is not a good idea to clone animals? Write a paragraph (at least 5 sentences with good capitalization, spelling, and punctuation) to tell me your opinion of the cloning issue. It is okay to share your thoughts because even scientists are still arguing this one.

Autumn Days

Hey guys,

We were so busy today in class that we didn't even mention that today is the first day of fall. What are three experiences that you enjoy most about the fall season? Is it the colors? Cooler temperatures? Kids going back to school? Pick three random things and write about them. If that gets you going and you want to write about more, have at it.

Example:

The things Mrs. Meade likes most about fall are:

1. little kids knocking on my door for Halloween candy

2. caramel apples

3. my family comes to my house for Thanksgiving

Hurricane Names

Our Louisiana coastline has been getting pretty badly beaten up lately. We are just getting back to school after Gustav, and now we are about to get hit by Ike.

Some of you have been asking about hurricane names. This link will explain how hurricanes get their names.

Look at the three lists. Is your name (or a variation of your name) on the list?

- If your name is on the list, do a google search to see when and where that hurricane hit.

- If your name is not on any of the lists, look on the retired names list. Pick one that you find interesting. Google it to see when and where it hit.

Example Answer: My name is Irene. Hurricane Irene hit North Carolina on April 18, 2005.
